STM is collecting small gifts and gift cards for our Kokua Foods families in Takoma Park to help them celebrate the holidays. STM had a wonderful time at the Winter Social: SCC (Strathmore Children’s Chorus) Gives Thanks on Saturday, November 16, 2019! They made fleece blankets for The National Center for Children and Families and snack bags for Martha’s Table. We enjoyed our second year of collaborating! Our thanks to Barnes & Noble for hosting a book drive for us on Saturday, November 16, 2019. They collected over 80 brand new books to support our Books to Bedtime literacy program. Our thanks to Melissa Rivers for organizing this wonderful drive for us.

STM had the pleasure of meeting a truly inspirational little girl and her family yesterday. Meet Kikoyo, a 7-year old activist! We were thrilled to help her and her friends get ready for their march in Washington, D.C. by hosting a poster making and button making party at the TPSS Co-op! We are also very thankful for their donation to our club. Thank you for your kindness and we look forward to seeing your parade photos!!!
A huge crowd of kids and adults enjoyed a presentation by kids author Andrea Beaty, who read her newest book, “Sofia Valdez, Future Prez.” Andrea was joined by Takoma Park Mayor Kate Stewart, who gave examples of how Takoma Park kids – like the fictional Sofia Valdez – persuaded city officials to make Important changes for the environment, such as banning styrofoam containers and plastic straws. Small Things Matter concluded the program by noting community service programs they do with kids. Our thanks to Karen MacPherson, Children and Teen Services Librarian.
STM was thrilled to be a part of Takoma Park ES Kindergarten Literacy Night on November 7, 2019. The kids had fun picking out books, bookmarks, and crayons. It was great to see their enthusiasm! Our thanks to Reading Specialist Gina Woods for the kind invite.
STM had a great time reading stories with the children during the TPES/PBES PTA meeting on Tuesday, November 5, 2019. The kids also drew turkey hands and wrote out 5 things that they were thankful for in preparation for our holiday season. Our thanks to STM members Auden, Abigail, and Lana for all of their hard work and kindness towards the children.
