STM had a great time hosting a few summer art classes for Community CHEER‘s Lunch and Learn Program. We made fun mosaics with the 2nd and 5th graders on June 27 2019 and decorated colorful tiles with the K and 1st graders on July 11, 2019. There were lots of smiles as these little artists worked on their masterpieces. Our thanks to Jackie Frazier and Doris Duarte for their kind invite, to Arts on the Block for their lovely donation of glass tiles and grout, to the Lunch and Learn K and 1st graders who decorated bookmarks for our literacy program, and to our wonderful members Brigitte, Eric, Declan, and Carter who did an amazing job helping the students!. We hope to share more craft projects at Lunch and Learn next summer. #kindness

STM gave out school supplies and books at the Kokua Foods Summer Popup on July 14, 2019. Our thanks to Leandra Nichola/TPSS Co-op for hosting the space and for providing delicious and nutritious snacks for the kids. Thanks also to our Hawaiian Shave Ice and Lemonade Stand volunteers whose fundraising efforts allowed us to purchase school supplies for 30 students!

STM had a blast at today’s Takoma Park Independence Day Parade and Fireworks. Our thanks to the 257 children who took our Superhero pledge to be a superhero by doing something nice for someone else. Thanks also to all the great groups that marched in today’s parade! Happy 4th all! #kindness

Thank you Pi Beta Phi for providing D.C. area schools and nonprofits with 30,000 new books as part of your 72 Biennial Convention on July 1, 2019. We are so grateful to have been a recipient of 400 brand new books for our Books for Bedtime literacy program. Our thanks to the 475 Pi Beta Phis who were on hand to help us pick out, pack, and load our books into our vehicle. We had an amazing time meeting you and are so grateful for your wonderful support and commitment to literacy.

STM is grateful to all of our awesome donors and partners that make our school-wide distributions possible. One of our partners Wonder Book/Books by the Foot have been committed to finding a home for every book and physically recycle books that cannot be reused. STM was honored to be part of the ACES reachHIRE Summer Bridge Program Service Showcase hosted by The Universities at Shady Grove on Saturday, June 22, 2019. We enjoyed sharing our mission with your students and engaging them in a small service project making bookmarks for our literacy program. We also enjoyed meeting other wonderful nonprofits doing good in our community. Our thanks to the wonderful coordinators Marcie Povitsky and Melissa Marquez for organizing a book drive for us and putting together a wonderful event!

STM had a great night out at the Washington Nationals game vs the Braves on Friday, June 21, 2019. Wonderful win for the Nats 4:3. Thank you Nats for gifting us tickets for our wonderful members, volunteers, and supporters! It was a great way to wrap up and celebrate our year together!

Our thanks to TPSS Co-op and Community Engagement Manager – Leandra Nichola for having us at their Thursdays at The Co-op event on June 20, 2019. There was wonderful music by Annette Wasilik, yummy food by Tasty Grill To Go, a tour of Leandra’s lovely tiny house, laughter, a sprinkling of rain, and a double rainbow!!!
