Thousands of tiny stitches by Ilse Daehler of ISewTotes on May 24, 2019

Our deepest thanks to the very generous Ilse Daehler of ISoTotes https://www.etsy.com/shop/ISewTotes who donated half of the proceeds from her recent quilt sale to support our organization. Ilse finished this Hawaiian quilt below for a customer, a quilt that his now deceased wife had not been able to finish and that he wanted to give to his children. He graciously paid Ilse handsomely for her work knowing that she would be donating half of the proceeds to STM.

I haven’t had the pleasure of seeing the finished quilt, but I’m sure it must be even more breathtaking now that all the handstitching is completed. A Hawaiian quilt is composed of thousands of tiny stitches that come together to create a work of art, a fitting metaphor for our belief that small things matter and can lead to a big positive result. STM will be using her wonderful donation to do many small things to serve those in need. Thank you Ilse for your kindness and support!!!!

Girl Scout Troop 44054 crafts blankets and toiletry bags for those in need on May 19, 2019

STM had a fantastic time with Girl Scout Troop 44054 on Sunday, May 19, 2019. Troop 44054 decorated and filled 20 reusable toiletry bags and made 3 large tied fleece blankets for the underserved families at The National Center for Children and Families. The scouts collected and sorted toiletries including toothbrushes, toothpastes, soap/body washes, shampoos/conditioners, toilet paper, deodorants, and body lotions before filling their decorated toiletry bags with them. They kindly donated the remainder of their collection to us for future use. Our thanks to Strathmore Children’s Chorus for their generous donation of socks that were also included in these toiletry bags. Kudos to Troop 44054 and Troop leader Djahna Akinyemi for their continued kindness to those in need and for their generous donation that will be used to support our Books for Bedtime literacy program. #kindness #literacy
